Chickens feeding in winter

Feeder Options for Your Alumi-Coop

Choosing the right feeder depends on flock size, workflow, and how you prefer to manage daily chores.

SPP Side-Mounted Feeder - 22 lb Capacity

The SPP feeder is a perfect option for grit and oyster shell. It is extremely strong and durable, mounts directly to the side of the coop, and offers a 22 lb capacity.

Because it mounts through the sidewall, it can be refilled from outside the coop. This makes daily chores simple and efficient.

Best suited for:

  • Grit and oyster shell
  • Smaller flocks of laying hens
  • Backyard layer setups
  • Owners who prioritize easy refill access

Pros:

  • Extremely strong and durable construction
  • Convenient refill from outside
  • Clean integration with the coop wall
  • Simple design

Considerations:

  • Smaller feed capacity
  • Can be challenging for smaller birds to reach in and access food
  • Better suited for laying hens than young or small birds

KUHL 35 lb Hanging Feeder

KUHL 35 lb Hanging Feeder

This red hanging feeder offers a 35 lb capacity and is suspended from the rafters inside the coop.

For most 6×10 and 10×12 owners, this is the recommended option.

The larger capacity reduces refill frequency, and the hanging design allows you to easily adjust height as birds grow or as ground conditions change.

Best suited for:

  • 6×10 and 10×12 models
  • Medium to larger flocks
  • Owners who want fewer refills

Pros:

  • Large 35 lb capacity
  • Adjustable height
  • Works well on uneven ground

Considerations:

  • Requires entering the coop to refill

48" Aluminum Tray Feeders

These heavy-duty aluminum tray feeders come standard on the 12×12 (4 trays) and 12×24 (8 trays) commercial models.

They can also be installed in 6×10 and 10×12 models.

They are extremely durable and contain no plastic components.

Best suited for:

  • 12×12 and 12×24 commercial operations
  • Plastic-free preference
  • Producers prioritizing durability

Pros:

  • All aluminum construction
  • Extremely durable
  • Easy refill from outside on commercial models (flip-up cover)

Considerations:

  • Lower capacity means more frequent filling
  • Refilling requires entering the coop on the 6x10 and 10x12 models and is less convenient than the 35lb hanging feeder

Rafter clip for hanging feeders

Use the feeder you prefer

You are not limited to the feeders listed above.

Alumi-Coop rafter clips can be added to your order, allowing you to suspend virtually any hanging feeder from the coop structure.

The rafter clip mounts securely to the aluminum framing and provides a strong anchor point for chains or hanging hardware.

This gives you full flexibility to experiment with different feeder styles, capacities, and layouts based on your flock and management style.

Whether you prefer galvanized steel, specialty gravity feeders, or another system entirely, the Alumi-Coop structure is designed to adapt.
